It is not often that one finds a real Portuguese treasure like this.

This pretty and big house is easy to fall in love with at just one glance. It

lies about 7km north of the charming city of Mangualde and half a km from the

nearest town, about 100m below the quiet country road leading to the next village.

The area is rural and tranquil with pretty small rounded hills dotted with olive trees.

The landscape and babbling brooks have a definite calming effect on the soul.

The house itself comprises 2 floors and on one side there is a walled space (big room ?, now without roof) having only one floor.

The walls of the main house are in a good state and the structure of the stonework most appealing to the eye.

The roof is still on but the wooden framework might be best renewed, although it

would be nice to reuse the roof tiles, being of the authentic antique type which

are now being copied for use on new modern houses trying to recreate the old rustic look.

The wooden floor between the levels is rotten in many places where water has come in and will need definite renewal.

Windows and doors too are somewhat primitive and past their best.

In the old kitchen history still speaks, with its sunken pit floor surrounding

the fireplace where the country folk used to sit and warm their weary bones in winter.

The house is bigger than one imagines...at an estimated minimum of 100m2 on the

upper floor. Especially appealing is the old rustic style overhang front

verandah whereunder one finds the nicest breadoven I have yet seen...completely

original and intact with the rounded stone built interior clean and clear to the view. Lovely !

For once this is not a house built on the border of its land. This lies more of

less in the middle of approx 3000m2. The owner initially was selling a bit less

but did a swop with his brother to make it bigger. The land has some trees and

grapevines but is mostly lovely green grassy fields, easy to maintain.....no brambles to fight here !

Nearby is a little brook which gurgles merrily as it flows downhill past theneighbour´s dozily grazing flock of sheep.

The only other sound to be heard is that of the tinkling sheepbells.

Although one feels enveloped by a fairy tale peace and quiet, it is only a walk

to town where one can find most amenities needed for daily survival. And a 10

minute drive brings one to the city with its hospital, library, police and fire

brigade, restaurants and supermarkets.

Just another 12km from Mangualde one can visit the cultural old Visigoth city of

Viseu with its theatres and a big DIY store where one has a big choice in buying

the material needed to renovate .

Getting to here from the airport is no problem as it is very close to the main

highway running across the country from the coast to Spain.

With the basics of a new roof, floor and windows and doors one has already come

a long way and for relatively little money. Thereafter it it up to the buyer to finish in the style fitting his budget and taste.

This is an exciting project to do and once renovated this property is sure to be worth quite a bit more than the total cost.
